It is with a heavy heart that we bring news of the passing of our dear friend and valued colleague Mike Odell, CILA Examiner, Trainer and Examinations Consultant. Mike passed away towards the end of June in the company of his close family.
Mike has supported CILA as a volunteer and examiner for over 10 years and in the last two years increased his support further as a Consultant to the Examinations Committee and Secretariat during the transition of leadership. Most recently, Mike undertook a full review of the Certificate qualifications and helped create and launch the new CH4 Liability Paper and materials. He has overseen the ongoing refresh and development of all CILA examinations materials. He was our guru for all examination queries and quandaries. Beyond CILA he had a wealth of experience in loss Adjusting roles namely GAB Robins and has provided training to many of our qualified claims professionals within the market.
Mike’s humor, sleeves-up-lets-crack-on nature, infinite wisdom and bellowing laugh had become an essential and beloved part of our team. His impact on the Institute cannot simply be measured by outputs and successes (though there are plenty!) but in also in the kindness and joy his company brought each day and the absence of which, will be felt deeply.
It is an understatement but there are no better words; he will be missed.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this time.
If you have any comments, memories, or details about Mike either personally or professionally that you would like us to share with his family, please send them to Claire.luckhurst@cila.co.uk. We are communicating with Mike’s family in how our membership can pay its respects and will let you know in due course. In the meantime please respect his families time and space to grieve.
