February – John Bissell Blog

2025 is well underway, marked by several dramatic world events that continue to shape our daily lives. Yet, as always, we hear inspiring examples of our members—both in the UK and internationally—calmly stepping into challenging situations, solving problems, and helping people and businesses recover. We would love to hear more of these stories, so please share them with us at info@cila.co.uk. We are happy to share them with our members and Special Interest Groups—anonymously if preferred.
Our Recent Developments
Our Manifesto commits to developing adjuster expertise, and we have kicked off 2025 with a refresh of our Certificate-level qualifications. It was fantastic to see a 14% increase in Certificate qualifiers in 2024, and we hope to see even greater numbers with the updated syllabus. A huge thank you to our dedicated volunteers for their invaluable contributions. The team is now turning its focus to the Diploma-level qualifications, and we look forward to sharing more details soon.
On the topic of examinations, congratulations to all who achieved their qualifications in 2024! We recognize the dedication and effort that goes into studying, and we know how rewarding it feels to pass.
We are also pleased to announce that, in addition to certificates marking your success, we will soon be launching digital badges. These can be displayed on social media platforms, allowing you to showcase your hard-earned achievements. Watch this space for more details!
Being Your Champion
One of our key Manifesto pledges is to build trust in the loss adjusting profession. We achieve this through collaboration, engagement, and allyship with professional bodies, trade associations, government, regulators, policymakers, and industry stakeholders. It is vital that the role, value, and expertise of loss adjusters contribute to public trust and confidence, ultimately leading to better customer outcomes.
To this end, we have been actively engaging with key insurance market bodies such as the CII, BIBA, ABI, FOIL, and others. Our goal is to ensure that the loss adjusting perspective is included in discussions on improving claims processes, embracing technology, learning from losses, and reinforcing the profession’s purpose and value.
So far, we have participated in two All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) sessions in Westminster, focusing on flood issues and consumer duty. We are also involved in the FPA Fire & Flood Database initiative, BIBA’s claims working group, and the FOS Property Claims Complaints Working Group.
Additionally, we are contributing to industry-wide efforts to address the ongoing talent challenge—attracting new adjusters to the profession and supporting career progression. More on this in our next update.
This is your Institute in action! We encourage you to share your thoughts by participating in our member survey. If you have ideas, feedback, or would like to get involved—whether through volunteering or attending our upcoming events—please do get in touch. We look forward to hearing from you!
