Steven’s background

Steven is a career loss adjuster, starting his traineeship with GAB Robins in 1990, following a spell in underwriting.  He qualified as an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters (ACILA) in 1997 and elected a Fellow (FCILA) in 2002.  He is also qualified as an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute (ACII) and hold a post graduate Diploma in Accounting & Finance.

He joined McLarens in 2007 and is currently Managing Director of McLarens UK & EMEA operations and sits on McLarens Global Management Team.  Steven considers himself very much a practitioner leader and throughout his career he has led the response to some notable events including the 7/7 London Underground suicide bombs and claims arising from the Buncefield Oil Storage Depot explosion.  His early days in adjusting in Northern Ireland in the 1990’s saw exposure to the aftermath of many terrorist bomb incidents within the province.

Steven has been an active CILA Council member for many years, holding the regional representative role for Northern Ireland from 2009 to 2019, and rejoining Council in 2022 following election to the office of Deputy President.

On being President

I count myself very fortunate to have discovered the profession that most of us unwittingly stumble upon, but however we find our way in, as an Adjuster, we are part of a unique club, one that I am extremely proud to be part of.  To represent CILA in any capacity has always been an honour, but to lead CILA as President is such a privilege, undoubtedly the pinnacle of my career.

I am truly excited to be leading us into the next phase.  In conjunction with John, the Executive Committee and Council, I will lead on resetting our strategic priorities and development plan, to ensure that we get our platform right such that we are properly aligned to our membership base and fundamentally that we do not lose sight of the value of the Chartered Loss Adjuster.
