From Damage to Decision: Practical CPD for Property Loss Adjusters

Join CILA and BELFOR for a technical day focused on better decision making in fire, water damage and asbestos-related property claims.

Delivered as part of the CILA Future Focus group’s CPD programme, this interactive technical day is for early-career loss adjusters and claims professionals looking to build understanding and confidence in real-world property claims handling.

The sessions, led by BELFOR’s team of remediation specialists, will explore restoration and drying techniques following fire and water damage, as well as important considerations around asbestos, helping delegates better understand where different approaches are appropriate, their practical limitations, and the risks involved.

Delegates will also gain insight into assessing contractor recommendations and supporting proportionate, compliant and cost-effective outcomes.

The training will cover the following specialist topics:

Soot Removal Film (SRF)

Fire damage often leaves soot contamination, but traditional cleaning can be labour intensive and disruptive to the policyholder. This session introduces SRF as a targeted, evidence-based approach and helps delegates understand when it may be suitable, alongside how to assess contractor recommendations and support defensible decision making in fire damage claims.

Drying & Dehumidification

Water damage requires timely and appropriate drying to prevent further deterioration and avoid unnecessary reinstatement costs. This session provides insight into modern drying and dehumidification techniques and helps delegates build confidence in assessing suitability, risk and contractor methodology across different claim scenarios.

Asbestos Awareness

Asbestos presents significant health, legal and compliance considerations, particularly where works may be licensed or non-licensed. This session gives delegates the awareness needed to identify risks, understand key obligations and make informed decisions around safe and appropriate remediation strategies.

Who should attend?
In line with the aims of CILA’s Future Focus group, this technical day is intended to support the next generation of loss adjusters and claims professionals through practical CPD learning. It is therefore aimed at those in the earlier stages of their careers within the property claims sector, with around five years’ experience or less intended as a general guide.

The sessions will be particularly relevant for anyone responsible for assessing damage, reviewing contractor proposals and making decisions on appropriate restoration approaches.
